Today we had the end presentation which meant we have concluded my very first module of the bachelor Creative Technology. The presentation itself was not very exciting. It was basically Mr. Reidsma saying: “Well done everyone and keep up the good work.”
In the first module "we create identity", we had a course called "The introduction to Create".
For the one assignment this course had, you needed a various set of skills. We were told that we had to make our very own interactive video!
My initial thought was "O my god, this is amazing! I have never done anything like this as an assignment in high school." Lucky for me,
I was sitting with my friends and we were already discussing what a possible topic could be. Little did we know that it was going to be
a lot work and effort to come up with our final video. If I could go back in time, there are a few things that I would like to change.
Firstly, I would change the mindset I had at the beginning of the module when I was first notified that this was the assignment.
Because I was so excited, I completely forgot we had to brainstorm together to come up with more ideas and combine all our ideas.
Not only me, but almost my whole group came up with ideas on their own, unfortunately there were some who did not.
In total our group consisted of 4 individuals and we are all quite different because of our personality’s.
This made it hard to come up with a final idea for the video. Not everyone in my group had the same drive as I did.
I was going to put in all my effort. I quickly learnt there was one other person in my group who thought the same.
the two of us were great at brainstorming together, but the rest of my group not so much.
They were okay with everything we said, or they were even working on other homework while we had a brainstorm session white alle the group members.
Do not get me wrong, it is nice that they agreed on a lot of our ideas, but at the same time I wished they would have given some criticism.
So, what I learned was that it is important to discuss with your group what your priorities are.
Because if you do not discuss this, it will lead to frustration since you are working so hard
while your team members are just chilling or doing other work.
Eventually the video came together. We all did our best to show of our acting skills.
But I do have to say that I luckily did not have to act so much and therefore could be
the cameraman and director (because it was necessary to take things into my own hands).
For the course Programming we had to create a creature using Processing 3. Read more by clicking on the image...
What is my vision for my website and what did I add to my stylesheet?
My personal addition is the effect on my blog posts.
By using the "card" effect my posts get a unique addition. I used the code shown in the image below.
Furthermore, my idea is to add page numbers, a search bar and a self-designed logo. In this case I
am not using CSS for my (not yet finished) logo but I am for the search bar, header, navigation bar and page numbering.
It is takes a while finding out how I can best display it, but I will get there.
The image below shows my code for the header and the color of my navigation bar.
I designed the color of the navigation bar myself based on the hex RGB structure.
The code for the pagenumbering and searchbar will follow because im not satisfied with the way it looks right now.
It is a website that I enjoy working on as I really enjoy using HTML.
So for the course "We Create Identity" we have to make an interactive video. This means that the viewer can choose between a few options that will determine the story. Our first step was to determine a topic. What is interesting for the viewer and what do we like to film? During an online meeting via Discord we had a brainstorming session. This resulted in many ideas that we placed in a top 10. Then everyone was allowed to make their own top 5. Fortunately for everyone "detectiv" was number 1. Personally I found it very difficult to determine the next step as a few from our group came up with all kinds of ideas and side issues. Because of this I could not see the wood for the trees. So I was very happy when we had a workshop on script writing on Tuesday 22 September. The teacher then gave us useful feedback that we could use to get started. You probably all want to know what our final storyline has become, but I'll leave that a secret for now ...

"Inner Landscape" by Martina Dal Brollo
Every time you look at the art piece, it looks different.
The spinning lenses revealed the beautiful holographic materials
which were found by the artist on the ground, threated as garbage.
She used them in a creative and unique way. What inspired me the
most was the fact that the materials were collected as a socially
responsible action. Together with a hundred people they went on a
trash picking expedition. Spreading awareness of our environment and the pollution we are creating.
My portfolio should represent who I am and what I am capable of.
But what am I capable of? Who am I and how do I want to present myself to the world?
I had no clue what would describe me properly so the world would get an idea of who Gijsje really is.
It took me some time to think about who I am, but I found out that what makes me happy is a part of who I am.
I decided that I would like to add things that make me happy and give me inspiration.
For example fashion and food which make my heart beat faster. But the thing I like to do the most is writing about things that happen to me on a daily basis. Give my readers and update on how my life as a first year student is going, the struggles and the moments of joy. Therefore I decided I want to expand my website and add articles about subjects I would like to read about.
The image above shows my first design of the website.
On the right side is a navigation bar ,,, where the bar of the page you are on slides further to the right.
Furthermore, there is a bar at the top with the name of my website.
On the Home page you can see a photo of me with a piece of text about who I am below.
This is a great idea, although I wasn't completely convinced of it myself.
That's why I made a second design that I eventually chose; the site layout as it is now (sketch downbelow).
For me, the layout is now much more logical as the intention is that the
natigation bar will always remain at the top of the screen, just like my name / logo.
This way the user can easily see on which page he / she is located and switch between the pages.
The first week was very exciting. I learned a lot from courses i never knew before. The amount of online lessons
really struck me... Lessons on the campus are my preference. I really wish we can go back to the normal
way of teaching soon, but for now this will have to do. I am still very motivated to continue the study regardless. Constructing
this website took more work than anticipated, but in the end the result is here.
Getting to know the class went a lot better than expected. I made some friends already and we hang out after classes at the Oude Markt.
All in all the first week was great!
Welcome to my blog and nice that you are taking a look!
Every week I share articles about the things that make my heart beat faster.
I hope to be able to inspire you in the field of fashion, lifestyle, beauty, interior and studentlife.
I am also a great supporter of me-time. Relax and recharge. Be kind to yourself!
Love, Gijsje
